LETTER FROM Michael Audette, Religious Education Director, St. Peter Parish

October 1, 2018

Good Morning, I wanted to take this opportunity to update everyone on the particulars of the Religious Education program as we get closer to the first class session on Sunday October 14th from 10:00 am - 10:50 am in the Friary.

Student Sections: Students have been assigned to one of four corresponding sections that align with their current level of sacramental preparation [First Reconciliation, First Communion, Confirmation, and General Faith Formation].  Students were placed in the appropriate sections based on the information provided on the registration forms.

Curriculum: As was stated on the information sheets displayed in the church, the First Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation programs are provided by Dynamic Catholic and can be accessed online at any time. Links to all the programs can be found on the "Religious Education" link on the parish website here.

Liturgical Participation: It is extremely important that the curriculum and formation that is provided in the class sessions be directly connected to participation as a family in the Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning parish masses. We have several Sundays set aside so that students can take part in some way in the Sunday Mass, but weekly attendance and participation at Mass is an essential part of any religious education program and faith formation development.

Teachers/Volunteers: We always welcome anyone who wishes to help volunteer for the program in some capacity, either as a teacher, guest presenter, or classroom volunteer. If you are interested in helping out with the program, please contact me as soon as possible. Anyone working with youth at the parish level must be in compliance with all diocesan safe environment regulations, including, being finger printed, undergoing a criminal background check, and being certified through the diocese's Safe and Sacred program [online]. We also ask that everyone working with the program be a registered St. Peter Parish parishioner as well. I can help anyone interested out with these requirements, so please feel free to contact me at anytime!

Catechist Formation Day: This year the Diocese of Burlington is offering enrichment days to help prepare DREs and Catechists for the current religious education year. This Saturday, October 6th, from 8:30 am - 1:30 pm there will be a Catechist/DRE formation morning at Christ the King Parish in Rutland. The cost is $10.00 per participant and pre-registration is required through the following link here. Anyone interested in working with the CCD program this year is invited to attend this morning of formation. Please email me with any questions or if you would like more information. The diocesan director of faith formation will be there and is excited to meet catechists, volunteers, and DREs from the Rutland area.

Calendar: The calendar for the year is attached to this email, (and can be found by clicking here), and any changes to the dates or times will be announced well in advance. In the event of inclement weather, we will do our best to notify everyone the evening prior based on the forecast. Thanks to everyone for their interest and involvement in the program this year and we look forward to working together to help our students grow in faith. If anyone has any questions please feel free to email me at anytime or contact me via phone at (802) 779-5771.

Respectfully,

Michael Audette St. Peter Parish Religious Education Program Director
